The Athletic’s Chris Waugh reports Newcastle United may focus January recruitment on one or more of three roles: right winger, younger centre-back and backup left-back. Club insiders indicate midseason spending would probably need to be balanced by one or two exits.
The report says Newcastle has some, but limited, room under the Premier League’s squad-cost ratio rules. Jacob Murphy, Joelinton and Joe Willock are identified as the likeliest departure candidates to help fund other business. Newcastle has generally not viewed January as ideal for major deals, though it could act if a suitable opportunity arose; injuries may also affect its approach.
