Australia removed hundreds of Dahua cameras from federal sites in 2023; some Leapmotor C10s sold there reportedly use the company’s cameras. Former cybersecurity adviser Alastair MacGibbon warns the cars’ six connected cameras could pose surveillance risks.
The cameras cover the vehicle’s surroundings and cabin. MacGibbon said a car near an official site could help reveal patterns in people’s movements and activity. Hong Kong stock-exchange filings show Leapmotor has an ongoing contract with a Dahua subsidiary for cameras, sensors and radars.
Australia has limited restrictions but no nationwide ban. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said drivers have been told to keep connected vehicles well away from certain sites. The Defence Department declined to specify what restrictions are currently in place.
