Josina Anderson reported Thursday the Giants had not contacted Cowboys practice-squad QB Joe Milton; New York has made no formal move. The speculation follows Jaxson Dart’s knee injury, with the team weighing season-ending surgery and Jameis Winston set to start Sunday.
Dart left Monday’s 28-6 loss to the Rams when a hit buckled his left knee. What initially looked like a sprained MCL appeared more serious after follow-up testing; Winston replaced him and completed 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards with an interception.
Milton could be signed directly from Dallas’ practice squad to the Giants’ 53-man roster without draft compensation, but would have to remain on it for at least three weeks. Former Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes urged the move, while ESPN’s Kyle Brandt questioned whether Milton would currently outplay Winston. Jerry Jones strongly backed Milton before the season, which the article cites as a sign Dallas sees him as part of its future.
