The Texas Rangers placed Joc Pederson on the 10-day injured list with a broken hand suffered Sept. 12, and activated Michael Helman. Cal Quantrill's move to the 60-day list ends his 2026 season and rules him out of any potential playoff series.
Pederson hit .235/.329/.487 in 432 plate appearances over 136 games, mainly as the designated hitter against right-handed pitching. The Rangers had delayed placing him on the injured list in hopes he could resume hitting; they hope he can be ready if they reach the playoffs, when he could join the roster.
Helman took Pederson's active-roster spot, while moving Quantrill from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list opened a 40-man roster spot. Quantrill had a lat strain. Helman played five rehab games at Round Rock after multiple fractures in his hands and fingers and could be a late-game pinch-running or defensive-replacement option.
