Released by the Yankees, outfielder Randal Grichuk has hit .299 with 14 home runs and a .917 OPS in 100 games for the White Sox after signing for $1.25 million. His production has contributed to Chicago securing an AL wild-card spot.
Grichuk played 16 games for the Yankees before his release, with a .535 OPS and -0.3 bWAR. The Sporting News reports 1.6 bWAR for his season and says Chicago has used him as a right-handed platoon bat in the outfield.
Chicago's wild-card matchup is against the AL West division winner. USA Today's Bob Nightengale described Grichuk as an “absolute godsend” for the White Sox.
