Pope Leo XIV ends France trip with Lourdes candlelit procession

Euronews

Pope Leo XIV joined thousands of pilgrims in a candlelit Rosary procession at Lourdes on Sunday, closing his four-day France visit; earlier, he celebrated an outdoor Mass attended by around 150,000 people and visited sick and disabled pilgrims.

More than 150,000 candles were lit across the sanctuary. Leo walked behind a statue of the Virgin Mary from the Grotto of Massabielle, where Bernadette Soubirous is said to have seen the Virgin in 1858.

During the visit, Leo met French bishops and held private meetings with survivors of clergy sexual abuse. It was the first official papal state visit to France in 18 years.
