CNN polls show only 27% confident in President Donald Trump’s handling of the economy, 26% approve of his handling of the Iran war, and seven in 10 want more government regulation of AI. The findings point to potential Republican vulnerability in November’s midterms.
Three-quarters of Americans polled said Trump had no plan to exit the war, which was nearing its seventh month, and two-thirds said the US was not winning it. At the UN General Assembly, Trump said he was weighing either an effort to “annihilate” Iran or a deal.
CNN’s latest poll gave Democrats an 8-point lead over Republicans in congressional preference, four points smaller than at the equivalent point before the 2018 midterms. About one-quarter of Americans approved of congressional Democrats and Republicans alike, and voters were split on whether Democrats would improve living costs, personal finances, corruption or foreign policy.
