Planet’s Pelican-12 reaches Florida ahead of SpaceX’s Bandwagon-5 launch

Planet Labs said on Sept. 25 that Pelican-12 had reached Cape Canaveral Space Force Station before launch on SpaceX’s Bandwagon-5 rideshare mission. The satellite offers optical resolution down to 30 cm, onboard AI computing and a steerable antenna for intersatellite data relay.

The article argues sharper imagery and onboard processing could help Planet sell higher-tier products to defense, agriculture and infrastructure customers. It cites the company’s backlog and high net dollar retention as sources of revenue visibility, while flagging ongoing net losses, financial leverage and dependence on third-party launch schedules as risks. For SpaceX, it points to Starlink revenue and launch execution as strengths, but notes heavy capital needs and regulatory, spectrum and supply-chain constraints.
