Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is “completely” healthy and able to govern despite his absence from public view since taking power in March. He said they last met about a month to six weeks ago for about seven hours.
In an interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier, Pezeshkian attributed the lack of photos or video of Khamenei to a “lack of security” caused by unnamed aggressors. Asked who actually directs the government, he sidestepped the question and discussed Iran’s position on the U.S.-Iran peace deal that collapsed in July and its nuclear program.
Mojtaba Khamenei succeeded his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a Feb. 28 strike; Mojtaba was absent from his father’s funeral in July. In an interview with Glenn Beck, President Donald Trump said he doubted Khamenei was dead and described him as “very seriously wounded.”
