Corinne Turnbull, diagnosed with osteoporosis at 39, is among campaigners going to Labour's Liverpool conference on Saturday to press ministers for promised early-diagnosis clinics. The government said in July it remained committed to a 2030 rollout.
A fall led to Turnbull's diagnosis, after a pelvic fracture and seven spinal compression fractures were discovered. The Royal Osteoporosis Society says half of NHS trusts in England lack a Fracture Liaison Service (FLS), and Brighton and Hove has no such service.
The Royal Osteoporosis Society estimates equal access to FLS across Surrey and Sussex would prevent 3,610 fractures, save 339 lives and £38m in NHS and social care costs. Its director, Ruth Wakeman, said the government's commitment needs a practical delivery plan.
