Drew Mestemaker threw for 389 yards and three touchdowns as Oklahoma State beat West Virginia 41-24 on Saturday, ending a 19-game, 1,036-day wait for a Big 12 win. Caleb Hawkins added 180 rushing yards and a touchdown on 31 carries.
West Virginia converted 9 of 17 third downs, often with quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. running. Oklahoma State ended a streak of five straight conversions late in the first half when defensive lineman Keviyan Huddleston tipped a pass and Mose Phillips III intercepted it.
At the WVU 4-yard line in the second quarter, Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris chose a 19-yard field goal after two runs failed to reach the end zone. Sam Keltner made the kick, cutting West Virginia’s lead to 14-6.
