Jasper County and the South Carolina Department of Transportation will hold an Oct. 1 meeting on a proposed $57 million, 3.8-mile Argent Boulevard upgrade between U.S. 278 and SC 170, including widening to a divided four-lane road; online comments are accepted through Oct. 16.
The plan also includes intersection improvements, stormwater upgrades, pedestrian and bicyclist accommodations, and better access management. Construction is expected to begin in 2030 or 2031 and finish by 2035. Its stated goals are to improve traffic capacity, operations and safety, and accommodate planned development.
The meeting will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Palmetto Electric Cooperative Community Room, 1 Cooperative Way, Hardeeville. Attendees can view concept plans, ask questions of consulting engineers and county staff, and provide comments in person; comments can also be submitted through the project website.
