Northwestern’s women beat Oregon 1-0 on Thursday, with goalkeeper Nyamma Nelson making four saves; the men matched the score against Michigan on Friday, holding on for 58 minutes with 10 players after Andrew Johnson was sent off following his second yellow card.
Ava Goodin headed in the women’s winner from a corner assisted by Megan Norkett. Oregon outshot Northwestern 13-9, but Nelson made four saves. Peter Riesz scored the men’s only shot on target in the 15th minute, and goalkeeper Dominic Pereira stopped both of Michigan’s shots on target.
The women moved to 4-4-3 overall and 2-1-1 in Big Ten play; they host Indiana Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. The men are 5-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten before visiting No. 22 Rutgers Friday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. CT.
