A late-September nor’easter is forecast to bring heavy rain, strong winds and coastal flooding to the Northeast, with the worst impacts expected Sept. 25-27. The National Weather Service in Boston warned of winds up to 40 mph and waves as high as 20 feet.
AccuWeather forecast up to 4 inches of rain across southeastern New England Sept. 25-27, with 4-8 inches in southeastern Massachusetts and part of Rhode Island. Major high-tide flooding was expected Sept. 23-25 in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. Localized flash flooding was possible from North Carolina’s mountains to West Virginia through Wednesday evening, with isolated urban flooding possible elsewhere in the rain zone.
AccuWeather chief meteorologist Jonathan Porter said the storm could take on tropical-like characteristics while moving over the Gulf Stream for two or three days. If it becomes a subtropical storm, the National Hurricane Center could assign it a name.
