Franco Colapinto’s move at Turn 1 on an Azerbaijan GP restart set off a collision that ended his race and those of Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris, leaving all three out of the points. Norris later said some drivers “shouldn’t be in Formula 1.”
Colapinto dived to the inside while trying to cut the corner, slid into teammate Gasly, and Gasly then slid into Norris. Colapinto apologized to Gasly and Alpine, saying he was “completely out of control.”
Norris said he struggled with straight-line speed and was passed repeatedly. Reflecting on the weekend, he said he should have won three of the previous four races, citing a bad break at the Spanish Grand Prix.
