No. 17 Iowa beat No. 18 Michigan 20-19 in the Big Ten opener, scoring on the final play at Michigan Stadium. Reece Vander Zee caught Hank Brown’s touchdown pass as time expired, giving Michigan its first loss of the season despite a 19-14 fourth-quarter lead.
Michigan took the lead on Bryce Underwood’s 49-yard touchdown pass to JJ Buchanan. Iowa had missed a 51-yard field goal before Michigan failed to gain a first down, giving the Hawkeyes the ball with about two minutes left.
Underwood completed 17 of 28 passes for 276 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Buchanan had five catches for 130 yards and two scores. Michigan is scheduled to visit Minnesota next Saturday, with kickoff at noon on FOX.
