No. 12 UCLA beats Maryland 2-0 after Foye’s red card

SB Nation

Maryland women’s soccer lost 2-0 to No. 12 UCLA after Paige Foye was sent off in the 70th minute. Oruha Hayashi scored soon after and again in the 87th; goalkeeper Faith Luckey made six saves. The Terps have now gone five straight Big Ten games without scoring.

Foye had received a yellow card earlier and was sent off after bringing down a UCLA attacker to stop a breakaway. Maryland created several first-half chances but failed to convert; UCLA finished with 21 shots, including 15 after halftime.

Coach Michael Marchiano said the red card affected the final 20 or 30 minutes, while saying his players kept fighting before and after it. Maryland was still seeking its first goal since Sept. 6.
