According to The iPaper’s Mark Douglas, Newcastle United has identified a young center-back and a right-sided forward as priorities for future transfer windows. Planning has begun for January and beyond, though no deal for a specific player is reported to be advanced.
Newcastle’s scouts met in the North-East for a post-summer review and to set future objectives. The recruitment strategy emphasizes developing younger players and building a sustainable player-trading model. The club has also advertised for a lead data recruitment analyst to help identify and evaluate potential targets.
The positions would help Newcastle plan for succession. Jacob Murphy, 31, is in the final year of his contract, while right-sided attacker Anthony Elanga is currently injured. At center-back, Fabian Schär’s contract expires at the end of the season, and Schär and Dan Burn are in the later stages of their careers. Newcastle already has younger central defenders Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman.
