Flooding prompted rescues of two people from a vehicle in Albuquerque’s Tijeras Arroyo and two near Mora, New Mexico, on Tuesday. A statewide Flood Watch remained in effect, with most of the state under a Level 3 of 4 flash-flood risk Wednesday and more heavy rain possible.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue said the vehicle was stranded in less than a foot of water near Poinsettia SE in the Four Hills area; crews moved quickly because water could rise rapidly. In Mora County, floodwaters overtook County Road A005, also known as Monte Aplanado Road. Deputies and other local agencies rescued the two people without incident. Separately, crews searched Embudo Arroyo after a report that a woman had been swept away, but found no one matching the description.
The Level 3 risk covered Roswell, Albuquerque, Santa Fe and burn-scar-vulnerable communities around Ruidoso and the Sacramento Mountains; a Level 2 of 4 risk applied to the rest of the state. The article said Pacific moisture associated with Hurricane Polo, hundreds of miles away, could bring another day of potentially significant flooding Wednesday.
