Polish President Karol Nawrocki said plans for a permanent U.S. base in Poland were “effectively confirmed” and floated “Fort Trump” as its name, but administrative and financial issues remain unresolved; he gave no specific date.
Speaking to Bloomberg at the U.N. General Assembly, Nawrocki said U.S. consultants had visited Poland and officials were selecting infrastructure for the proposed base. He said he hoped President Donald Trump could attend its inauguration before his term ends in 2029.
Trump said last week that “major progress” was being made and the site could be announced soon. Deputy Defense Minister Stanisław Wziatek said the base could host about 3,000 to 5,000 U.S. troops; Warsaw seeks roughly 15,000 U.S. troops in Poland overall. The proposed base would shift the mainly rotational U.S. presence toward a permanent one.
