Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodriguez told the UN General Assembly on Wednesday that the country would hold elections as part of a transition to “full democracy,” but gave no date. She said the government had opened dialogue with the opposition.
Rodriguez said the government would guarantee participation by all political forces and that national institutions were being prepared for the electoral process. She cautioned that Venezuela’s recovery “will take time.”
Rodriguez came to power after U.S. forces captured then-President Nicolas Maduro in a January raid. She met U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday and praised him for restarting dialogue with Venezuela.
