Nasdaq-100 fast-entry rule could add Anthropic 15 trading days after IPO

Reports say Anthropic chose Nasdaq for an IPO, potentially qualifying it for the Nasdaq-100 after 15 trading days if it meets the size test. Anthropic has not confirmed an IPO or November timing; its initial QQQ weight could be near 1% if its public float is small.

Nasdaq’s rule, effective May 1, lets a new listing enter after its 15th trading day if its full market value ranks among the index’s top 40. The index’s weight uses the lesser of a company’s listed value or three times the value of freely traded shares. SpaceX listed June 12 and joined July 7; less than 5% of its shares were available to trade, so it entered at about 1% despite a value above $2 trillion. More than 200 products with over $800 billion in assets track the index.

Business Insider reported Anthropic’s Nasdaq choice, citing a person familiar with its plans. The Wall Street Journal later reported the listing had slipped to November, after third-quarter results. Anthropic has not confirmed the venue or timing; it submitted a confidential draft registration statement to the SEC on June 1, but the filing was not public. A May funding round valued the company at $965 billion, while estimates for a potential IPO near $2 trillion are not final.
