New Jersey records show $49,275 in approved invoices for a law firm hired May 21 in connection with Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell, 15 days after an anonymous letter alleged misconduct. Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s office has not confirmed an investigation.
The May 21 agreement retained Lowenstein Sandler and former state Attorney General Christopher Porrino to handle the inquiry. The approved invoices cover May 21-June 25, with attorneys billed at a blended $450 an hour and paralegal work at $90 an hour.
The state released the records after NJ.com sought them under the Open Public Records Act and threatened litigation over the delay. A May 6 anonymous letter reportedly accused Caldwell of bringing “uninvited female guests” to three events and improperly offering jobs; Caldwell has strongly denied the allegations.
