Monroeville, Ohio, is sending power from a new 6-megawatt, 9,222-panel floating array into its local grid. With its existing 4-MW solar plant, the roughly 1,300-person village has about 13 times Ohio’s solar capacity per resident.
The platforms cover about 12 acres of reservoir surface, compared with roughly 30 acres needed for a comparable ground-mounted system. D3Energy says the installation is Ohio’s largest floating solar project and among the five biggest in the United States.
Gardner Capital owns the system and sells its electricity to the village; D3Energy developed it, and Appalachian Renewable Power handled contracting. D3Energy says this is its third Ohio floating-solar project; active floating-solar capacity in the state is nearly 10 megawatts.
