Mariah Thomas was sentenced to 13 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to first-degree endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death. The deal dismissed the first-degree murder charge; she received no probation and will get credit for time served.
Police found Thomas’ 1-month-old daughter, identified by FOX 4 Kansas City as Za’riah Thomas, dead with severe burns at a Kansas City home on Feb. 9, 2024. Charging documents say investigators were told Thomas had gone to put her daughter down for a nap but accidentally placed her in the oven instead of the crib.
