Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas are due to address the UN General Assembly in New York on Thursday, as the Middle East conflict dominates the annual debate. Abbas is scheduled to speak by video after being denied a US visa.
Britain is due to host consultations on the situation in Gaza and its future administration. A ministerial meeting backed by Norway and Saudi Arabia is also planned to focus on implementing a two-state solution.
The General Assembly’s high-level week began Tuesday and is scheduled to run through Monday, with speeches by about 120 world leaders and several foreign ministers; Sunday is the only planned break. A separate high-level meeting will address rising sea levels, including protection for vulnerable island states and low-lying coastal areas, financing and international cooperation.
