The Mets beat the Nationals as A.J. Ewing’s three-run homer gave them the lead in the seventh, after they trailed 1-0; Ronny Mauricio followed with a solo shot and later hit a two-run homer. Jonah Tong allowed one run over five innings in his final start.
Tong struck out nine, walked one, allowed three hits and threw 87 pitches. He finished his major-league season with a 3.82 ERA and a 3.30 FIP over 30.2 innings. Manager Andy Green said before the game that Tong is not guaranteed a place in the 2027 rotation.
Brett Baty’s eighth-inning single and an error by Nationals shortstop Nasim Nuñez brought Carson Benge home for the Mets’ fifth run. In relief, Dedniel Nuñez struck out three in the sixth, while Nate Lavender, Devin Williams and Tobias Myers each threw a scoreless inning; the bullpen allowed no hits.
