At Medinah, the International Team entered Presidents Cup singles with its first-ever lead on U.S. soil and a chance to win for the first time since 1998. The article argues the showing challenges calls to include LIV Golf players.
The article recalls that Cameron Smith and Joaquin Niemann joined LIV before the 2022 Presidents Cup; it says they would have qualified first and fourth, respectively, for the International side. Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace had also joined LIV. The writer says the 2024 event was not close and captain Mike Weir used the same eight players in both Saturday sessions.
The writer says the PGA Tour should consider giving the two captains the option to select one or two LIV players, but says LIV's future beyond this year is not guaranteed. Players who leave in the coming months and focus on the DP World Tour next season could have PGA Tour cards for 2028 and potentially become eligible for Kingston Heath, the article says.
