Sen. Mitch McConnell returned to Capitol Hill last week after roughly three months away following a June fall. On Wednesday, he did not answer reporters’ questions about his health and his wife’s response to his hospitalization as security and aides surrounded him.
McConnell said the June fall briefly knocked him unconscious and that he was also treated for mild pneumonia. Health questions have continued amid a series of falls and public freezing episodes in recent years.
McConnell stepped down as Senate Republican leader at the beginning of 2025 and later announced he would not seek reelection; his current term ends in January 2027.
