Democrat Adam Hamilton is challenging Republican Sen. Roger Marshall in Kansas, where no Democrat has won a Senate seat in 94 years. A Republican county commissioner called the race “uncomfortably close” less than six weeks before November’s midterm voting ends.
Hamilton initially considered an independent run but said he concluded it would divide voters seeking change. Former Republican Gov. Bill Graves backs him and is urging Republicans and unaffiliated voters to consider crossing party lines. Hamilton has pledged not to support Sen. Chuck Schumer as Senate leader and argues the Kansas seat may not decide which party controls the chamber.
President Donald Trump called Hamilton a “radical left lunatic,” and Vice President JD Vance traveled to Kansas to support Marshall and criticize Hamilton, pastor of the nation’s largest United Methodist church. Trump also threatened to ban sales of Bombardier, which employs more than 1,200 people in Wichita; Marshall said he would fight to protect those jobs and had raised the issue with Trump.
