Max McNown’s third album, “Leave on a Light,” draws on his marriage, past struggles and his brother Brock’s Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis to explore love and vulnerability. Now streaming, the album aims to help listeners feel less alone, he says.
On “Something to Someone,” McNown says he revisited a period when he hated himself, though he is in a good place now. He describes love as requiring deliberate effort, shaped by his marriage to his wife, Sallie Kate, and frequent touring.
McNown said his brother Brock had been navigating Hodgkin lymphoma since 2019. During the interview, Brock was undergoing a scan, with results expected within hours to determine whether he remained in remission; McNown did not yet know the result.
