Mark Halperin warned Republicans Friday on X that the Trump White House was faltering ahead of midterms, citing Trump’s low approval and lost support among young men, women, Hispanics and independents, as well as an unpopular war and high consumer prices.
Halperin cited a taxpayer-funded TV ad featuring Trump that he called blatantly political and “obviously illegal,” questioned the president’s consideration of a day on the road in Alabama, and described Florida and Kansas as red states with electoral vulnerabilities. He said many of his pro-Trump Republican sources viewed a media ban as ill-advised and counterproductive, called the diesel-export ban an “own-goal failure,” and cited renewed rumors that MAGA Inc. would not spend its cash to help GOP candidates.
Halperin said wins for Susan Collins, Roger Marshall, Ashley Hinson, Mike Rogers, Dan Sullivan, John Sununu, Jon Husted, Michelle Tafoya and Ken Paxton were possible, and Republican House losses might be minimal. Even so, he warned of a possible “Blue tsunami.”
