Bungie says Marathon’s December Symbiosis update will add team deathmatch and a permanently available PvE mode for players to test builds and skills without attacks from other players; details of the PvE mode are still being finalized.
The update will overhaul the Perimeter zone with a new visual identity and gameplay encounters, including a boss called the Tick Queen. It will also add the Bishop, a new shell archetype, and a social space with a firing range to help new players get started.
An unnamed update planned for March 2027 is expected to be “meaningfully larger” than Symbiosis. Bungie plans interconnected permanent PvE, PvP and PvEvP experiences, onboarding improvements, a new zone and alien enemies, deeper shell progression, and more focused questlines and narrative. The studio says the changes will lay a foundation for Marathon to grow through 2027.
