Patrick Mahomes said the Indianapolis Colts focused on stopping Kansas City’s run after the Chiefs rushed for 220 yards against Denver in Week 1, opening play-action opportunities in Week 2. Two of his first three completions came on under-center play-action.
Kansas City used play-action on 35% of its pass plays Sunday night, a rate that would have ranked third-highest among its games last season. The Chiefs exceeded 35% twice in 2025 and won both games: 30-17 over Detroit and 22-9 over the New York Giants.
Through two games, Kenneth Walker led the league in both rushing yards and attempts. Mahomes said the Chiefs would keep adjusting the balance week to week, running when defenses stay back and using play-action when defenders crowd the line.
