On Friday’s “Real Time,” Bill Maher said actions by both parties helped reduce drug deaths, calling it accidental bipartisanship. He said deaths involving fentanyl were down 55% from their peak and cited declines of 37% for cocaine, 89% for heroin and 34% for meth-related deaths.
Maher credited former President Joe Biden and Democrats with expanding Narcan access, and said border closures, deporting gang members, disrupting drug supply and law enforcement also contributed. Separately, he argued an expanded safety net leaves fewer people desperate. He said he opposed some of President Donald Trump’s methods, including deporting people to countries with which they have no connection.
