LSU and Louisiana AG Liz Murrill filed a motion Friday to dismiss the SEC’s federal suit, citing lack of personal jurisdiction and failure to state a claim. The SEC called it “deeply disappointing,” said resolution talks failed and is preparing a court response.
The SEC filed the lawsuit after LSU recruited Zxavian Harris and Dae’Quan Wright, former Ole Miss players who had signed NFL contracts, failed to make their teams during training camp and sought to return to college football with former coach Lane Kiffin. LSU later filled its remaining roster spots without them for the 2026 season, but the lawsuit remained unresolved.
The SEC said other member universities’ concerns about LSU’s commitment to conference rules and shared governance remain unresolved. Murrill said the SEC had not moved to end the case against her or LSU, making her motion appropriate to protect the state’s sovereign interests; she called the case “improper and moot.”
