Sunday's 123 run-offs in Lower Saxony decide mayoral and district-administrator posts after no candidate won over 50% two weeks ago. The AfD could secure its first top municipal office in the state, but all three candidates were well behind in round one.
In Salzgitter, AfD candidate Patricia Mair is challenging incumbent Mayor Frank Klingebiel (CDU), who has held office since 2006. The other AfD candidates are Christoph Weynand, facing independent Anna Adamczak in Munster, and Felix Mull, facing independent Jens Lüer in Bockenem.
In Hanover, Green Mayor Belit Onay is seeking to retain his post against the SPD's Axel von der Ohe. In the Hanover region, SPD candidate Eva Bender is facing CDU candidate Oliver Junk.
