Lord Ivar Mountbatten became the first member of the extended royal family to publicly come out as gay and the first to have a same-sex wedding. He married James Coyle in Devon in 2018 and later won the US version of The Traitors as a Faithful.
Mountbatten is a second cousin of King Charles III and a direct descendant of Queen Victoria. He married Penny Thompson in 1994; they separated in 2010 and divorced in 2011, and have three daughters: Ella, Louise and Alix. Thompson gave him away at his 2018 wedding to Coyle.
Mountbatten and Coyle met in Verbier, Switzerland, in March 2015. Mountbatten said Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, supported the marriage. Prince William had not addressed the relationship directly; in 2019 he said he would support his children if they were gay, while expressing concern about discrimination they might face.
