Kentucky beat South Alabama 45-21, with several players injured or held out. Coach Will Stein said DJ Miller, Nic Anderson and Cole Marszalek should be fine; he said Martels Carter Jr. sat with “nicks and bruises,” while Tavion Gadson was held out as a precaution.
Miller left with a soft-tissue injury; Anderson was pulled for tightness, and Marszalek also missed time because of tightness. Stein expected running back Jovantae Barnes, who limped off late, to be OK and said his issue was not major. Stein said Gadson should play in Week 5 at South Carolina.
Starting safety Ty Bryant, who was already dealing with a shoulder injury, was seen on the sideline during the second half with a possible arm or wrist issue. Stein did not mention him in postgame interviews.
