Four days before Presley Gerber, 27, died at a rehab facility on Sept. 20, his sister Kaia said he was watching her FX series “The Shards” and sending her photos. Dispatch recordings indicated responders were looking into a possible overdose.
Kaia said her parents had been very private and that Presley’s openness about his struggles made him the family’s “absolute teacher” of honesty. She said she came to see herself as “the easy one” and avoided asking for help, feeling it was too much for her parents to have two children in need.
Presley had spoken publicly about his mental health and substance use to help others facing similar struggles. In a since-deleted Instagram video from December 2025, he said he hoped sharing his experience would help others find support.
