A federal jury convicted Kevin Curry of defrauding TRICARE. Prosecutors said he billed the military health program more than $26 million for treatments that never happened, were unnecessary or were guaranteed through kickbacks; TRICARE paid him about $17 million.
TRICARE is a health care program for U.S. military members and veterans. Curry, who operated two purported Texas clinics, was convicted on nine counts: three each of health care fraud, offering and paying illegal health care kickbacks, and monetary transactions involving criminally derived property. He faces up to 10 years in prison on each count; sentencing will occur later.
The Justice Department said Curry laundered some of the $17 million he received, putting it toward hotel stays, a casino-themed party and a gold-plated Cybertruck. Federal agents seized the 2024 vehicle in January. Curry was charged in June as part of a North Texas health care fraud sweep involving 13 defendants.
