Maverick Carter wants to end the $25,000 monthly child-support payment to Crystal Streets, saying he pays their 18-year-old daughter’s boarding-school costs; Streets seeks $35,000 a month. After a Sept. 15 hearing, a judge suspended payments for three months but has not ruled.
Carter argues their daughter turned 18 in July and that the court no longer has jurisdiction over custody issues involving her as an adult. California’s general rule is that support ends when a child turns 18 and has graduated high school. For an unmarried 18-year-old still attending high school full time and unable to support themselves, support generally continues until graduation or age 19, whichever comes first.
Streets says she still provides emotional support, coordinates travel and meets other needs while their daughter is at boarding school. She argues Carter’s resources justify an increase, claims he is worth more than $100 million, and says they agreed to $35,000 a month in 2024 but never formalized the arrangement because of disruptions related to California wildfires.
