Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith caught 12 passes for 217 yards and four touchdowns in Saturday’s 42-19 win over Illinois. Each mark was a career high, and the performance could become a defining moment in his Heisman campaign with eight games remaining.
Smith entered the game with 21 receptions for 400 yards and three touchdowns through three weeks. He had also exceeded 80 receiving yards in each of Ohio State’s first four games.
Five of the remaining games were against teams then ranked in the top 20, and three were scheduled on the road.
