Virginia Tech beat Boston College 21-14 in Chestnut Hill on Saturday, overcoming a 14-6 fourth-quarter deficit as a nor’easter brought heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 40 mph. Jeffrey Overton Jr.’s 76-yard touchdown run put the Hokies ahead for good.
Boston College quarterback Mason McKenzie scored both Eagles touchdowns on runs. Ethan Grunkemeyer threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Marlion Jackson, and Virginia Tech converted a two-point try to tie the game before Overton’s winning run.
Virginia Tech kicker John Love made two field goals, including a 45-yarder as time expired in the first half. A social-media post estimated about 50 people were in the stands 20 minutes before kickoff as rain fell.
