By Sept. 25, Jefferson County had processed 2,974 of about 3,400 voter registrations that did not go through as expected while residents obtained new driver's licenses in July. Officials urge affected voters to verify registration before the Oct. 5 deadline.
The deadline is for the Nov. 3 election. Tax Assessor-Collector Kate Carroll said the office received the information from DPS this week and warned that some applications may still be held up. Voters can check their status at VoteTexas.gov or call the office at 409-835-8683.
Carroll said people with felony convictions may be eligible to vote after completing their sentence, probation and other requirements, but Texas law sets specific eligibility rules. Recent movers from another Texas county may, depending on their circumstances, qualify for a limited ballot covering candidates or measures common to both their former and new counties.
