Kentucky Democratic Senate nominee Charles Booker says confronting America’s history of slavery and discrimination could unite voters around affordability, economic opportunity and racial justice. He is running against Republican Andy Barr to succeed Mitch McConnell.
Booker says his “Hood to the Holler” grassroots movement draws people who voted for Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden, as well as people who have never voted. A September Gallup poll cited in the report found 89% of U.S. adults said government corruption was widespread, its highest level in 20 years.
Booker, 41, grew up in poverty in a majority-Black Louisville community. If elected, he would become Kentucky’s first Black U.S. senator; he was the Democratic nominee in 2022 but lost to Sen. Rand Paul.
