Jasper Egler, 18, pleaded guilty Friday to two amended second-degree murder charges for killing his mother, Kelley McCollom, and her boyfriend, Matthew Szejnrok, in 2024. A judge sentenced Egler to 50 years, with parole possible after 25.
Egler initially told 911 that an unknown man had broken into the home. He later told investigators he took his mother’s gun while she and Szejnrok were at a party, shot them after they returned, then stabbed Szejnrok after running out of ammunition. Egler said he was upset by his mother’s response to his transition and the age gap in her relationship.
Under the plea agreement, prosecutors agreed not to recommend a life sentence. If released, Egler will be subject to 20 years of supervised probation and mental health screenings.
