Iran says diplomacy is the only way to resolve its conflict with the United States and Israel and is awaiting mediators’ formal response to its plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and pause regional fighting, after Trump said publicly he rejected it.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said any move to reopen the strait depends on Iran’s conditions. He said the proposal would start a seven-day countdown to reopening and pause regional fighting. If Washington agreed, broader talks on mutually agreed subjects could follow, potentially including Iran’s nuclear program.
Araqchi said mediators had not officially relayed a US rejection, even though Trump said publicly he had rejected the plan; a US official earlier described mediated discussions as “positive and constructive.” Washington has imposed an economic blockade to pressure Tehran to stop attacks on vessels in the strait, where Iranian attacks have sharply reduced shipping.
