Amtrak’s first Airo trainset made a preview trip for media and local officials between Seattle and Portland on Sept. 26. Airo service on the Cascades route is scheduled to begin Sept. 30, with two sets operating and a third held in reserve.
The preview train was one of three Airo sets accepted for service. It will be open for public tours in Portland on Sunday morning and Seattle that afternoon; registration slots filled within 24 hours.
Eventually, eight Airo trainsets are expected to operate on the Cascades corridor between Vancouver, British Columbia, and Eugene, Oregon. The full fleet is not expected to be in operation until January.
