IonQ shares rose Wednesday after IonQ demonstrated real-time error decoding on one CPU across hundreds of logical qubits and millions of logical operations. It will install its Superion 256 at Nvidia’s quantum research center, integrating the platform with Nvidia’s AI systems.
Qubits can be disturbed by temperature changes, electromagnetic interference or manufacturing flaws, so quantum computers need error correction. IonQ research lead Nicolas Delfosse called real-time decoding at this scale a milestone and said a single-CPU decoder offers a practical path toward commercial-scale fault-tolerant computing.
IonQ said the Nvidia integration aims to accelerate research in financial risk management, materials science and drug discovery. CEO Niccolo de Masi described the deployment as the beginning of an era of hybrid quantum-classical computing.
